Lincoln/Mercury Repair: CRUISE CONTROL, mercury tracer, 1998 mercury tracer

Question
Where is the cruise control fuse on a 1998 mercury tracer trio and are there any other common checks as to why it does not work- - - please help?

Answer
Hi Phil,

Most common failure is the speed sensor. It's located on the transmission. It tells the computer how fast the car is traveling. It also operates the speedometer. If your transmission is shifting oddly, this might be the cause.

The fuse for the cruise is is labeled ASC. There is also a relay labeled the same under the hood.

Speed sensor is availible at the dealer. Should be about $20 Hope this helps.

There are a number of technical service bulletins out on this car, one recall.

The recall is the owner's manual shows the wrong locations for fuses! LOL
