Lincoln/Mercury Repair: power window, mercury sable, glass guy

Hi Dinger,

I have 1997 mercury sable w/ power windows.
We rolled the window down and now it does not come back up. what can I do and what is the cheapest way to fix it? I looked up a couple of places and they are trying to charge me $400 and up to fix it. I believe it could be the motor.
Can you give me some advise?

When you try to roll up the window, is there a noise? If there is a noise, it is not the motor. About 75% of the time it is actually a bad switch in the door if there is no noise. If it is a window motor you can get one at the junkyard for about $20. If you hear a noise when you try to roll it up, it will be a bad register. About $40 to $80 at the dealer plus an hour labor. Don't have it fixed at the dealer! They will rip you off every time. Find an auto glass guy to do this.
