Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 97 Mountaineer no start, altinator, squeel

Question
Hi :)
I have a 97MM V8 5.0 ..this weekend it pretty much died on me :(..Friday evening after shutting it off it would turn over, start, blub blub blub a few times and die..the parking lot owner was nice enough to let me leave it for the night..I go back to get it and it starts right up, Saturday no problem all day mostly short distance..then in the evening I drive about 20 min to the store and it does the same thing, sits over night and starts on the second try, I brought it home sunday morning and decided to clean it up some, shut it off, changed the oil, and thermostat (it dropped down to nothing on the gauge a couple of times late in the week so I figured it couldn't hurt) swapped out the pcv valve, checked all fluids, and it still wont start..two things bother me..I had the rotors done and asked the mechanic to check a squeel under the hood he said he barely caught it and it sounded like the altinator pulley, can it cause the vehicle not to start..and two I can't hear the fuel pump engage, but I was told an ignition problem could turn the engine over and still not send a signal to the fp to engage, I'm all confused now..I would be so happy to have your advice...cause my friends sure just think they know what they're talkin about...lol...thanks so much...Jeannie
