Lincoln/Mercury Repair: Hub & Bearings, mountaineer, bearings

'02 Mountaineer has been making a louder then normal sound when I brake to slow down.  I thought it was the tires, but I am being told that it is the "hub & bearings".  This is my 2nd time in 2 months that I am getting this done. Should I be concerned? Is there anything I can do? How long should these parts last? I'm just very upset about it and worried. Any help or information you can give would be greatly appreciated. this hub and bearing should last a verry long time some times they last the life of the car .
If it was not installed right and tourked it is the reason why i would make sure u have a very good shop doing this work. and that hub and spindiale should be still under warnertery . work . foro the shop who replaced it . good luck to u hun and u have a pretty name and please rate my serivice pete
