Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis, mercury grand marquis, jumper cables

My boyfriend recently bought a 1984 Grand Marquis from an older guy.  It is in wonderful shape. However,the battery died and my boyfriend miswired the jumper cables and the voltage regulator blew. He bought a new one to replace it but he moved quicker than his brain and took it a part without writing notes on what wires went where.  We have been searching for a wiring diagram for a 1984 voltage regulator (in need of steps for "dummies", color code assistance is needed.  If he fixes that problem then he can drive it again)  We have had no luck or leads so far.  We would be highly greatful for your assistance.
