Mazda Repair: 1999 miata, jumper wire, car wont start

Question
I checked for spark but can't see one. car wont start unless i spray some
starting fluid in intake.
Throttle has no response after it starts on  starting fluid.
I read thet spark is weak on miatas but can't see at all, even in the dark.
Thx:Duane

Answer
If it runs on starting fluid then it is not an ignition problem.  Check for fuel flow.  Your in tank pump may have failed.  Open the fuel feed line and get a catch container in place.  In the diagnostics box under the hood,  drivers side, place a jumper wire between GND and F/P to force the pump on.  Key on, you should see fuel flowing if not your in tank pump need to be removed and checked directly.
