Mazda Repair: MX3 stalling, throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor

Question
My MX3 has been intermittently stalling. I am driving, then suddenly its as if the engine has been turned off, the revs drop to 0, i can't accelerate and my power steering locks up. Sometimes it starts back up right away, sometimes it takes a few goes for it to start up again. I ran a diagnoses and got the codes 03, 04 and 12. I found they meant that something is wrong with the 'G' camshaft sensor, the 'NE1' crankshaft position sensor and the throttle position sensor. My mechanic has looked at a few things and says its a 80% chance i need something in the distributor, possibly called the ignitor? i dont remember exactly. Would this be the correct thing to fix? I don't know a lot about cars, so i want to know if the mechanic's idea will actually fix the problem, or whether he is just trying different things to fix it.(and wasting my money in the process :P) Thanks!

Answer
Not in my area of expertise but it sounds like a magnetic pick up or a crank/cam position sensor issue.  Not sure which that car uses.  If it has a mechanical distributor and lots of miles the distributor drive shaft may be also to blame since a pickup relies on the shaft being true to work properly.  Have the code reset or disconnect the negative battery terminal depress the brake to drain the reserve capacitors and reset the on board computer.  This will clear all previous codes.  When they re appear see if they are the same.  Sorry I can't nail it down for you the MX3 is not one of my babies.
