Mazda Repair: 1993 miata air bag code 10, mazda dealer, diagnostic control

I have a 1993 Miata and the air bag light flashes ten times then pauses, then it flashes 10 more times. It does this over and over.  Can you tell me what this code is indicating, and what parts I need to purchase?

The diagnostic control unit has failed.  You need replacement part NA01677F0A, $187.04 from a Mazda dealer.  The unit is plug and play though the assembly is a bear to get to unless you are a contortionist.  Under the dash above the steering column.  The smaller one is the system battery backup and is no longer available from Mazda.  The system works without out it if it fails.
