Mazda Repair: Rear Shock/Strut Replacement, sway bar links, pickle fork

Question
I want to replace the rear shock/struts.  It doesn't look as easy as I first thought.  What are the steps to remove/replace the shock/struts?

Bob

Answer
first remember all cars are different so this is just a general guild line

front
1. loosen the lug nuts and axle bolt
2. jack up the car and secure it on jact stands
3. remove the tire
4. useing a ball joint and tie rod tool remove the ball joints and tie rods and sway bar links (depending on the model of car this may not have to be done) don't use a pickle fork or a hammer or anything to remove ball joints and tie rods you will damage them
5. sperate the lower control arm from the strut
6. with out allowing the axle to drop pull out on the tire and place the axle out of the way ( use wire to tie it up out of the way)
7. support the strut and remove the remaining bolts located under the hood on the strut tower
install is the reverse and there your done the front
moving to the back

rear
1. lossen the lug nuts and riase the car supporting it on jack stands
2. remove all brake lines and wiring attacted to the strut
3. remove the strut to knuckle bolts and knock them out usig a hammer and punch
4. seperate the strut from the knuckle don't allow the knuckle to fall
5. remove the trim from the trunk area to get to the mounting bolts
6. support the strut and remove bolts
install is the reverse and there all done
pat yourself on the back and enjoy
