Mazda Repair: 94 Mazda 626 no start no power when ignition on, fuse boxes, power fuses

Question
My son installed a battery that had posts reversed.  Of course he had a pretty good spark so then he saw that they were reversed.  After putting the proper battery there is no power.  no lights in the instrument cluster and it will not turn over.  What damage did we do?

Answer
I doubt you did any expensive damage to the car and all that will be needed is to replace all the main power fuses under the hood. It will be aprox $50 in fuses assuming it killed all of them. I do not think that you killed the starter as DC motors do not care what the polarity is they simply reverse their direction in accordance to current flow. The main fuses are located inside the black fuse boxes under the hood and some are plug in and others are bolted in. I suggest you take out all the ones that are blown and bring them all to the autoparts store to match up the replacements. And always remember to read the terminal markers on a battery before it is installed.
