Mazda Repair: Lifters and AC, luck chris, stabalizer

My step-son has a 1988 MX-6...  Been told the ticking is his lifters... Bought the car pretty cheap, found that we should first change the oil and use some special lub to help the noise and problem -- Will this help?  Also, the AC has died...  Should we convert the AC to the newer refrig?  Thanks!  Cristy

Hi Cristy thanks for asking
IF there is only a minor lifter noise then yes an additive like the lucas oil stabalizer will help with the noise. The old refrigerant is called R-12, they  will no longer alow this stuff to be used, so the whole system will have to be convered to take the new R-124A freon, it can get expensive though,
