Mazda Repair: Howling Sound, wheel bearings, air intake system

Question
Chris,
The noise is definitely coming from the engine compartment. I replaced the front brakes and checked the wheel bearings which were okay. If I open the hood, the noise is louder and sounds like it is coming from either the air cleaner or the hose connecting it to the intake system.
Thanks,
Tony V

Question -
Thanks Chris for wanting to help. I am driving a 1999 Mazda B-4000 4x4 Pickup and when it gets hot it makes a howling sound. The noise seems to be coming from the engine compartment and possibly the air intake system. Does this sound like anything you have run into before?

Hi Tony thanks for asking
Are you sure this howling noise is coming from the engine, or is it coming from the weels, howling noises come from the wheels, if there is an noise like an air leak then it while come from the engine, I need to know exactle when and where this noise is coming from.. get back to me and i will give you some more info.
Good Luck

Answer
hi again Tony,
Check to see if the breather tube is tight on the trottle body and clipped down at the air filter, that will give a wierd noise on acceleration if it is loose, if this is not it it may also be a vacuum leak somewhere, and if this isnt it it may be the belt making this noise, its hard to say anything without hearing exactly where this noise is coming from.
Good luck Chris P
