Mazda Repair: Mazda MPV, excessive repairs, mazda mpv

Question
I currently have a Mazda MPV (2004) with 72,000 kms and my lease is up in a few weeks.  I am trying to decide if I should buy it out or give it back.  I have heard stories of trouble with the transmissions in the higher kilometers.  Is there anything you have heard that might help with my decision?
Thanks,
Patti

Answer
The MPV is a moderately good long term vehicle.  With normal maintenance they see relatively high mileage use compared to other makes.  It is very dependent upon your residual value vs the penalty of turning it in as to wether it is worth the expense or not.  There has not been a rash of large component mechanical failures.  You should be able to at least double your current mileage without the need for excessive repairs.
