Mazda Repair: Mazda 2002 MVP, mazda dealer, snails pace

Question
Your answer referred to a 2000 Mazda.  It is a 2002 Mazda MVP. I cannot believe it needs a new transmission.  The car has 23,000 miles on it.  Is it safe to drive?  After repair of this car, the lunging or thumping when it changes from first to secong gear is still there.  What is your opinion now.

Question -
When driving the car from a complete stop the car occasionally
thumps into 2nd gear with a loud sound. Have had it checked by
Mazda dealer and they found nothing.
Recently had an accident where car was moving at a snails pace.
and lunged forward up a berm and hit a tree. Can you give me
any advice as to what might have caused this to happen. It has
been determined that it is not an accelerator problem.

Hi Fran thanks for asking.
I have seen this problem many times. Your van defintly needed a transmission. I have replaced many due to the same problem, these vans alyas blew them before 100 000 km, sorry to hear you got into an accident with it though, i hope you alright.

Answer
Hi Fran thanks for asking,
These MPVS had a huge problem with there transmissions, take it to a Mazda dealer and have them update the PCM for the transmssion that controls how smooth it changes gears, If this doesnt help then the trans, is defective and a new one will have to be installed, I wouldnt really drive it too long like this, wihth the hard shift your risking damage to other parts of the vehicle, it puts alot of stress on engine mounts, driveshafts, ect...
Good Luck
