Mazda Repair: what are lifters and how fixed, mazda dealer, mazda 3

Question
i have a mazda 3 2004 I sedan, i was recently told that the lifters are making a strange noise. what are the lifters and what does it take to fix them. is it safe to drive the car? until looked at.

Answer
Hi Darren thanks for asking,
Lifters are what lift the rocker arms open that lets the fuel or exhaust leave and exit the engine. replacing lifters is a huge job, And if this is a 2004 it should be under warranty, unless you havnt been doing your regular oil changes, If you dont do your regular services you will suffer from problems like yours, lifters usual anrt a huge problem if you look after the engine. Or this could just be a factory defect. This engine in the Mazda 3's are very complicated and only should be done by a Mazda dealer, there are alot of special tools required for a rebuild on this engine. get back to me on anything you find.
Good Luck
