Mazda Repair: A/C Compressor and Putt-Putt Sound, mini amp, luck chris

Question
Hi, Chris!

The putt-putt sound seems to be coming more from the engine then the rear of the car.  I would press my foot on the accelerator, the sound would go away, but within seconds returns again.

Hello!  I have a 2000 Mazda Protege LX who's A/C keeps going out.  For example, on June 29, 2006, had freon put in and replaced the 15 mini amp to help the A/C come back on.  By July 2, 2006, the A/C went out of the car.  Also, I keep hearing this "putt-putt" sound (especially when I have the car in park).  Could you please let me know what is the going rate (price/$$$) to replace the A/C compressor or should a mechanic use some type of dye to determine where the leak (the freon) is going and then determine if I need to get a new A/C compressor.  The car has an estimate of 81,900 mileages on it as of today.

Thanks for your assistance. ;~)

Hi Cherese thanks for asking,
the best thing you could possibly do is have the dye injected to the system, but that will not always detect a leak, The best way is a mechanic should fill the system with nutrogen and inspect the whole system with a "sniffer" that will detect leaks, Too do both is even better and should be included on a AC inspection or diagnostics. To tell you about the noise i will have to know where this noise is coming from, so get back to me.
Good Luck

Answer
Hi thanks for asking again,
i dont know if this will be the same, but i have seen a simialr problem to this before, when the AC is on it puts alot more load on the engine, if the tune up condition of the vehicle is in poor shape then it will ve more vulnerable to give the engine a misfire. When the AC is on as well the engine runs a little warner then it normaly would. Have someone check the spark plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, pcv valves  ect...
good luck
