Mazda Repair: Mazda Tribute, independent mechanic, mazda tribute

Question
Hi.  Seems to be some sort of "vacuum leak" behind the dash of my 2001 Tribute.  When I depress the accelerator, it sounds like a hissing tea kettle.  WHen I brake, the noise stops temporarily.  Dealership couldn't hear it 2 weeks ago ($80 to clean a bit of debris out of the a/c blower) but it has gotten progressively worse.  Independent mechanic has scheduled to try to find leak through removing glove compartment in a few weeks.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi V Meiser thanks for asking,
All the heater and air conditions controls in the air box air air controlled from the vacumm of the engine, There may just be a vauum line to an accuator cracked or a diapram in an accuator cracked or maby a hose just feel off. The next time you are in your vehicle try all the temp setting and vent position. If there is one thing that doesnt work then you know what part of the system to start off at or tell your mechanic.
Good Luck
