Mazda Repair: Drivers Side Mirror, collision repair industry, salvage yard

Question
Recently, someone hit my mirror on the drivers side, going at a pretty fast speed. It busted the actual glass-mirror out, and cracked the plastic on the outside, off the mirror. It is dangling now! I can't rip it off because of the wiring that goes back inside the door. I need the whole thing replaced. I am wondering, will it have to be rewired? If so, how much does that generally cost. Secondly, how much is a replacement for the mirror? And would I just take this to any body shop? Thanks in advance! -Ally Hunt

Answer
Their is a plug at the end of the mirror wires, just below the edge of the door panel. If you can pop off the door panel you can disconnect the wires and toss the thing in the back! You can get a new mirror from any one of the companies around; however, I suggest you go with cool view mirrors available through KEYSTONE and other retailers to the collision repair industry. They run between $50-$350 depending on the make and model of your car “you didn't give me that part of the equation" Regardless of price you’re going to need one. I usually send people to the salvage yard for parts but when Mirrors are concerned I say, buy it new. It's not worth the hassle to screw around with something that has been sitting on a shelf for a year or more in the elements.

Happy Motoring,
