Mercedes Benz repair: a/c 300e 1989, conversion kit, 134a

Question
I own a 300e mbz 1989 with 142000 miles. Recently, the a/c compressor stopped working.
1. do you recommend that I convert the existing system from r12 to 134? Will it function well with this conversion?
2. If I keep the existing system (r12) what components would you recommend replacing other than the compressor; receiver drier? evaporator? condenser?
3. please give me your opinion on how to restore this system so it blows cold air.
Thanks in advance.
Stan

Answer
Greetings! I suggest converting it over.
The price of r-12 and finding it can be a problem.
Your 300e will perform real well with the 134.
Please note that it takes 10% less of the 134a than the r-12 requires.
And as far as what to replace? If your compressor just stopped working and it didnt have something happen internally to it, then all you will need to do is buy a conversion kit and oil(134a). And a compressor if yours is bad. You will need to make sure that this is what happened to your a/c system before buying the high dollar compressor. It may just be a bad relay. You can find this over in behind your battery, just in behind the black plastic cover. By crossing pins 30 and 15 you can bypass this relay and if your compressor works then , all you need is a relay. Also make sure that your system is full of freon. If someting happened internally to the compressor, then it will need to be flushed with a recover and recycle machine. Then the drier, and expansion valve will have to be changed Thanks and i hope this helps. Ricky
