Mercedes Benz repair: Hood latch cable, hood latch, head screwdriver

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1975 Mercedes 300D the hood latch cable broke or pulled out of the latch and I cannot open the hood.  How do I get it open for the repairs.

ANSWER: Greetings Len!
On this car you will have to get a pair of pliers and pull the cable from inside the car just in behind the latch. you can then make repairs as needed after doing this. You may need a new cable with the new latch now depending on how hard you had to pull the cable to unlatch the hood. Thanks and i hope this helps! Ricky

QUESTION: Hi Ricky thanks for the reply.  The cable is broken at the Latch and not conected to it,so pulling the cable would not release latch.  How do I get to the latch to open hood from it.

Answer
Good Morning Len!
On that car you have to go in through the grill. Right there by the little pull out, just to the left of it. You will need a flashlight and a long skinny flat head screwdriver. You will go in there and release the latch by running the screwdriver in between the latch and striker. It should pop right up. Thanks and i thought you meant it was broke at the other end. I hope this helps. Thanks and good luck!
