Mercedes Benz repair: 1985 benz 380se fuel delivery problem, cylinder head gasket, fuel pressure regulator

Question
I am working on a 1985 380SE (126 - 116.693). The problem is: car starts, idles very irratic and rough, dies as soon as you apply the throttle. The fuel pump and relay are good, there is adequate pressure at the fuel pressure regulator. I have found a few broken or disconnected vacuum lines and repaired them but it has not had any affect.
Basically, do you know some problems that can cause these symptoms? Also, if a vacuum problem can cause this...where could I test over all engine vacuum? I am getting kind of stuck on this one so any direction would be greatly appreciated.
