Mercedes Benz repair: 1985 Mercedes 300TD, vacuum pump repair, number search results

Question
My 85 300TD has started running real loud, and shakes like crazy at idle, it used to run fine. The vacuum pump quit working, I replaced the glow plugs, and it starts ok cold. I have been reading up on the ADL, my question is , Will the vacuum pump not working cause the engine to run like this? It never was so loud as it is now, I was thinking I got some bad diesel fuel, changed both filters. Will it harm the engine to keep driving it like this?

Answer
Answer:
Stop running this engine...
A failed vacuum pump can break your timing chain, (wreck your engine).

The vacuum pump must be repaired/replaced before any further diagnosis can be done.

From your description, there is a 50/50 risk the pump assembly is junk.
