1991 mercedes 300e, 4matic 3.0 L 170,000 miles
near portland oregon

very difficult to start
replaced cold start valve and o-ring
very slight improvement
car will start after much cranking
idles extremely slow for 10-15 min.
when it begins to warm up, slowly rpm;s increase until it begins to run up, then runs perfectly
has good power and acceleration and starts
easily when warm/hot.

I suggest replacing all of the air breather hoses on your engine.

Very possible your issue could be these items.

E.H.A. Valve leaking.
E.H.A. Valve Seal leaking.
Air breather hoses leaking.
Fuel Accumulator internal leak, loosing pressure.
