1997 c180 classic

My remote control batteries were running low for a couple of days and before replacing them a week ago the the signal indicators just stopped working (including the hazards).

I replaced the batteries in the remote and all was well for a week until this morning.

Indicators just stopped working this morning for a minute (after a 15 minute drive) and then seemed fine.

Are the batteries just a coincidence?

I had been using the bike for work so had not been using the car for more than a couple of very short weekend journeys since Christmas. Since a 300 mile trip 6 weeks ago, I have only done just over 250 miles.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my question.

My question is about the indicator / signal lights packing in.
I thought at first it had something to do with the alarm system. I am still not sure if its this or damp or something like a loose connection - but I would rather not open the steering column or anything if there is something easier I could try first.

Excuse the old joke - but the indicators lights are only working intermittently. Were not working at all until I put new batteries in the remote and now I can't depend on them working. They do not come on all the time.

Answer
If I recall correctly, the Wiper Relay/turn signal relay are merged into a single unit on the W202 chassis.
If the relay fails, it can cause intermittent function.

The vehicle security system is connected to the turn indicator wires, and can cause intermittent function.
