Mercedes Benz repair: odometer, mercedes benz, electronic unit

I have a 1987 560 SL Mercedes Benz and the odometer is not working. I have it out of the car. Should I send it to someone to fix? Or can it be fixed by me? It is an electronic unit. Thanks Max

The sensor/drive unit in the transmission generally causes this issue.
