Please help to how to figure out which part needs to be replaced either starter, alternator, battery or any other part in my 1986 560SEL mercedes. Does not crank. The battery is almost new, had bought at the Mercedes dealer. All lights working fine, plenty of juice. I could be wrong here and I need your help.
Answer -
Inspect the ground cable from engine to body.

The ground cable to the body, Is that the cable atteched to the negative therminal of the battery.
Please let me know

Answer
NO:
Cable from engine block to body, if it corrodes or breaks = no ground to starter.
You can cheat = attach jumper cables to battery ground and engine block, then try starting, if this works = bad cable to engine.

Neutral Safe Start switch test = NSS
Move shifter to neutral position and try starting, if it starts, your NSS switch is bad.

Have you inspected the starter for power wires corroded off starter solenoid?

More tests if these have not solved your issue.

NSS is on the left side of the transmission, two bolts mount it.
The trick is the connector.. to remove it , you have to turn the outside ring/lock on the connector to get it to release.
