Mercedes Benz repair: latches for hood will not disengage., liquid wrench, release cable

Question
Both latches seem have locked....The handle did not break away from the release cable.  Is it possible for the cable to have broken away from one of the latches or stretched? It trys to unlatch them but the action is not complete. What else can you suggest?  IF taking the hood off is the only alternative, what would be the easiest way in?  Thanks for sticking with this. Meantime I am trying the liquid wrench solution. -------------------------

Question -
I have a 1983 Mercedes 380SEL. Today I shut the hood down and it did not close all the way. I pulled the hood release lever and it will not release the 2 hood latches, so that they can be triggered. How can I get the hood up... ?

Need help asap so I can get to work tomorrow.

Thanks.

Need more data.
Do you mean that the right latch locked, but the left one did not?
Did you leave anything under the hood?
Did the handle break away from release cable?

Get a spray can of Liquid wrench or PB blaster, spray the latches in every possible way.
Try pushing down on the hood, while someone pulls the release.
