Mercedes Benz repair: MB SL 320 wiring harness replacement, mass flow meter, dave muller

Question
I am going to attempt to replace the wiring harness body mounted in my 1995 SL 320 because the insulation on the wires has totally disintegrated and is causing some short circuits.
The picture shows about 15 connections to different areas.I am a pretty handy and knowledgeable person and would like to try it myself. The MB part is 129  540 99 06.Do you know if it something that should be attempted by a DIYer or is it something better left to the MB people? The dealer quoted me $450 labor.Since you have many years of experience I thought that I would ask you.The air mass flow meter is connected to this harness,so it is mandatory that it be replaced before inspection.Thankyou for any advice.Dave Muller

Answer
Scale of 1 - 10, one being easy, this is a nine.
One mistake and the harness or sensors are junk.
A highly skilled MB technician can do two of these per day, if everything is perfect and nothing goes wrong.
I have seen a highly skilled MB technician slip and spend two days fixing the disaster.
