Mercedes Benz repair: 1973 450SL Freon, freon, great shape

I am about to have my freon recharged.  Do you know what type of freon my car would require.  I think it would be R12, but I'm not positive.  

The compressor seems like it is working and the hoses are in great shape.  I hope the freon will be the only thing needed.  Is there any test I should do before getting the freon?

Yes your system is R12 but it is probably cheaper to R32. There are also some seals in the pump that most likely need replacing. Have them leak test the system before you load it up with R12. That stuff costs 60.00 per pound and your system holds just over 2 pounds. You do not want that leaking out.
