MG Car Repair: install time of startrer

What is shop time on takeing the starter out and installing a new one in 1975 mg midget? Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,

According to Mitchell manuals it is 1.6 hr to remove and replace. However, that does not include the associated work like testing to determine that the starter is the problem and checking the grounds from engine to frame and battery to frame and the power wires too. (Resistance in either the ground or the power side can shorten the life of any electric motor.) Also we found it necessary at that time to examine the teeth of the flywheel ring gear. You will not be able to convince a customer that one month later if a flywheel ring gear goes out that it didn't have anything to do with the starter replacement.

These added items take time (and money) and should be explained to your cuctomer up front.
