MG Car Repair: Mgb wiper motor, mgb roadster, small screws

Question
Hi, I have an mgb roadster 1978 . Can you tell me the best way to take out the wiper motor as it is very inaccessible? Thanks

Answer
Hi Pete.  I use a 7/16 socket and a 4 inch long 1/4 drive extension to undo the two bolts that hold the motor to the bulkhead.  There is a BIG nut on the end of the motor that you must undo.  Remove both wiper arms from the spindles.  Unplug the electrical connector.

At this stage I protect the inside of the car with newspaper and put on a pair of disposable gloves.    The rack will be covered with grease so be prepared for the mess. Remove the motor from the car by drawing the wiper rack out of its tube.

Off the car, the rack can be removed from the motor after the lid has been taken off.  The lid is held by four small screws with 2BA hex heads.

As they say in the manual, "re-assembly is the reverse of these instructions"

Have fun.
