Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1937 plymouth brakes, anchor bolts, spinning the wheel

Question
Looking for someone to tell me how to readjust the brakes on my '37 plymouth. The old shop tools are not available. Thanks Ken.

Answer
Well sir here is how we did it in the day when one of these came into the shop. If the drum is off the car check to make sure that the lower anchor bolts are adjusted with the arrow stamped on each bolt head pointed towards each other. Then install the drum and put the wheel on. With the car still jacked up and supported by body stands locate the eccentric adjusting bolts. They are at about 9 and 3 o'clock on the backing plate. put a wrench on the bolt head so that it is parallel with the ground and pointing outward, in other words the front one will point to the front of the car and the rear one will point to the back. Now pull down on the wrench while spinning the wheel until the wheel stops. The push the wrench up until the wheel turns with a tiny bit of drag. Repeat on the rest of the adjusters and then check the brake pedal. You should have a good brake.
