MG Car Repair: Buying an MGB, wiring loom, electrical faults

Question
I am new to classic cars.
I know of an 79 MGB, seems very solid but need a good paint job.
Some one has been working on the wiring, the area in front of the passenger seat has been removed and the wiring is exposed. During my test drive everything worked but I was getting small electrical shocks from the wheel..... I fear I might have to rewire the whiole car...... Something I can not do.
Thoughts.
Expense?

Answer
Hi Kevin.  If the HT from the coil was connected to the steering wheel that might tickle you.  Perhaps the HT lead between the coil and the distributor is rubbing against the steering column?

If everything works, perhaps the wiring just needs tidying up.  Replacing the loom is not a quick job and could be quite expensive.  A new wiring loom costs about £200.  Even with my knowledge, I would probably allow a full day to strip out the old one, connect up a new one and make sure everything works.  I guess it depends if you can do it yourself or if you have to pay a motor electrician to do it for you.

That said, I would rather find a car that needs paint and has a few electrical faults.  Much better than finding a car with severe rust problems.
