MG Car Repair: MGB battery charging problem, brown wires, ground connections

Question
Changed out alternator and the battery still want charge, cleaned connections on starter where brown wires are that come from alternator, has a new battery showing 12.5 volts , after starting showing 12.10 volts. did everything I know to do, terminals at alternator look good, ingnition light stays on all the time.

What should I  check?

Answer
I would check all the electrical ground connections. Common for dirt/corrosion to build up. Make sure all connections are clean and tight. The ground connections are to the body of the car from the Neg. side of the system. I have seen cars with this problem and loose/dirty connections cause the problems you describe. Again, you have also said that the battery is new - so that is important - otherwise I'd also suspect a potential battery problem.  Hope this helps out.
