MG Car Repair: 1977 MG Midget, stromberg carburetors, float chamber

Question
i have a 1977 MG Midget that seems to be running rich. i have rebuilt the carb and i can have the carb leaned out all the way before the needle bottoms out and it still runs rich, replaced spark plugs and wiring but after about a mile or 2 the plugs are so carboned up that the car barely runs.

Answer
Hi Coleman,

If the needle is all the way down and it is still running rich (black smoke out the tail pipe and flat black powder carbon on ALL four plugs) then you need to look for either a restriction to air intake, (air filter or diaphragm torn, piston stuck and not raising) or look for reasons that the fuel is being forced out of the jet like a float problem or a float chamber vent problem. Or the most common problem with Stromberg carburetors (The choke)
