MG Car Repair: 1978 MG MIdget Hood, screw driver, release cable

Can you tell me where the hood release is on a 1978 MG Midget? My guess is that it is in the center of the hood but parts are missing from there so we are having a heck of a time opening it. Is there a hood release on the inside of the car that could be missing as well? Thank you!

Hi Angel,

The hood release cable pull is on the left under the dash. If the cable is broken or missing and the hood is latched you can take a long heavy screw driver and insert it into the grill in the center up high and use the screw driver to trip the latch by prying it toward the drivers side. It is best to look at another Midget to see where to pry. Have someone else press down on the front of the hood while you pry so as to take the load off of the latch. As I remember all the Midgets were the same so you don't need to find a 78 to look at.
