MG Car Repair: Side Lights 1970, bad earth, hazard switch

I have been restoring my car for the past couple years and do not recall if the side lights only come on when the switch is on the parking lights or do they anly come on with with the headlights.

Also if I have the flashes on, only 1 back light flashes. Is that a bulb issue. Thanks

Hi Jim.  The lighting switch has 3 positions,  1=off, 2=sidelights & 3=headlights.  In position 3 all the lights should be on (headlights, sidelights, number plate lights and instrument illumination).  There are two fuses for the sidelights, one for the left side of the car and the other for the right side.

The turn indicatiors should operate on each side, and the hazard switch should operate on both sides together.  If one lamp does not work, either the bulb has blown or the lamp has a bad earth.
