MG Car Repair: Fuel Pump, burlen fuel systems, airmail charges

Question
After carefully reading your inputs, I suspect I have a 1976 engine and possibly an earlier car - maybe a 1973 or
thereabouts.  Title says 1976, but I remember right after
I got it the engine blew and I had to change it out and the
mounts had to be reconfigured to fit the new engine.  Could
this possibly be some of the problems I'm having?  Should I have been following 1973 schematics?  Is that why you saw
the earlier pump in my boot picture?  When I buy a replacement, should I ask for a 1976 or the earlier model?
I figure the 1976 era should work...wanted to check with somebody smart before I make the purchase.  You've helped
tremendously so far - might have to make a trip over there and shake your hand some day...looking at going abroad next summer hopefully...so...btw...it don't work again...

Answer
Hi Wayne.  If the pump is partially in the boot, then the car is a 75 or later.  If the pump is entirely underneath the car, then it is a 74 or earlier.  What is the VIN number?  That would tell me a lot.

As regards the pump, just get an AUF300 type like the one in my photo.  Yours is the same type, possibly with some slight differences.  The very early MGB had a different pump, but the changeover point was around 1967.

I would get in touch with Burlen Fuel Systems in the UK.  Even with airmail charges it would still be a saving.
