MG Car Repair: 1976 mg midget horn wont work, jumper wire, tracer wire

Question
I have studied the wiring chart and every thing is as it should be. Yet the horn will not blow using the horn push. Does the steering column need to be grounded somehow? If so how. I am ready to give up on this and just install an after market horn button on the column.  Any help would be appreciated including the proper connections for my aftermarket horn button idea.

Thanks

Answer
Hi James,

Looking at the diagram and the wires does not test anything. You need to use the diagram to ID a wire as it is a hot (12v) or a ground wire. Then you need to test that wire to see if it is a "Hot" wire or a "Ground".

Did you test the purple wire to see that it is hot with 12 volts? Did you try grounding the Purple w/black tracer wire going up to the horn push to see if the horns blow? Did you test the spring loaded plunger under the horn push button?

Why do you want to put a aftermarket horn button on the car? Why not just fix the one that is on the car?

The only tools needed are a test light and a small jumper wire.
