MG Car Repair: 78MGB Roadster First gear will not engage, others do, gearbox, roadster

Hi,
The First gear of my 78MBG Roadster will not engage, the others gears are OK (icl. Reverse), so I can drive until my car goes into the workshop. But will driving damage my other gears?
( when engaging 1st gear I heared a 'snapping' sound and immideately first gear was not te be engaged.

Hi Ferdinand,
It totally depends on what is wrong. There are several things that could be wrong that can destroy the whole gearbox. and several that will not. So not knowing which it is, I would say "DO NOT" drive the car until you open it up and see what is wrong.
