MG Car Repair: 1977 mgb, fuel guage, fuel gauge

I have recently purchased a 1977 MGB. While driving engine stops running. The fuel guage goes to empty when this happens.It does turnover fuel pump is working. This is intermittent

Hi Randy.  The fact that the fuel gauge reads emptty leads me to suspect the ignition relay.  It is a small canister, usually black or possibly blue, hanging near the fusebox.  It has 4 terminals with 5 wires going to it.  They are Brown, Two White wires joined together, Black, and White-with-a-Brown-stripe.  I would start by replacing this relay.
