Car Stereos: my 98 jeep cherokee, jeep cherokee, power antenna

I have a 98 grand cherokee and just hooked up a different cd player other than the stock one. The sound works with the radio on. It does not work when playing a cd. It shows the cd is playing but no sound with it. All wires are correctly hooked up except for a loner plug. There is no place to hook that into on the aftermarket cd player. Any suggestions?

Hi Michael,

It sounds like you have a wire (or two) swapped in the harness.  Perhaps the power antenna is running to something that should be going somewhere else, so the system is only behaving when in radio mode because the power antenna gets 12V only in radio.

I would suggest removing the harness, taking it inside, and joining the wires under good lighting with a magnifying glass if you need it to make sure everything is wired correctly.

Once you've done that, go outside, and just plug it all together.

And if you didn't buy a factory integration harness and cut your factory harness, put back the factory harness, go buy an integration harness, and start over.  It's worth the $20.  Trust me.
