MG Car Repair: noisy fan clutch, jumper wire, fan blade

my 76 mg fan is making a grabbing noise at idol but not noticable going down the road?

Hi Chris,
You should have the two electric fan system so feel for any free play in each fan blade, then take a jumper wire (12ga.) and run a hot wire to each fan one at a time (black w/green tracer wire) to run each fan to see if you can detect which is making noise. Also check to see that the blades are not contacting the fan shroud anywhere. I have never tried to replace any bad bearings in the fans just replace a bad fan when needed.
