MG Car Repair: 1977 MGB Carburetor Problem, stop screw, adjustment screw

Question
I have a problem with my 1977 MGB Carburetor where the engine's RPM's are so fast that I have to turn the ignition switch off, in order not to destroy the engine. I need to know how to set the carburetor back to a base point, where the engine will run. This will allow me to then adjust the carburetor to a more proper level. I have no idea where to start with a solution to this situation.Please walk me through the process, baby steps please!

Answer
Hi Roy,
No engine can run fast without a lot of air and fuel meaning that the throttle plate is open either because the idle stop screw is holding it open or the linkage is out of adjustment. Or the auto choke is stuck on and holding the throttle open by the fast idle adjustment screw.

You need a manual just to ID each screw on the linkage and the auto choke system. It would take a book of e-mails to just ID all these items.

If you already know each item get the idle down and I will go over the adjustment procedure of fuel mixture and testing.

let me know,
Howard
