MG Car Repair: fuel pump, fuel pump, several miles

Question
Thanks so much for helping with the fuel pump question.
It does seem to only quit when the motor is totally warmed up,when engine is cold it works great, after several miles of driving and getting hot , then it quits,,,,,,,,,after cooling down for several hours , it will fire up and run great for maybe a month or more, doesn't happens all the time, but seem to be getting worse and worse, if I put on an electric pump, is it happens I mount it in the back of the car, also if I replace the mechanical pump will the old one come right out after taking the two nut off that hold it ? Is it possible for me to get the new one in wrong where it wouldn't contact the cam correct ?

Thanks so much for you help,

Steve

Answer
Hi Steve.  Sounds as though your mechanical pump is starting to wear out.  Just undo the two bolts that hold it to the block and it should come out.  New pumps are very cheap, so I would just replace it to ttart with.  Remember to fit a new gasket between the pump and the block.  I don't think you will fit it wrongly.  The shape is such that it is obvious which way up you should fit it.

If you fit an electric pump, you will have to replace the mechanical pump with a blanking plate, just to cover the hole in the block.
