MG Car Repair: dash pad cover, dash pad, dash panel

QUESTION: Hi Howard,
I have purchased an injection molded dash pad cover replacement for 1975 MG Midget. There are no instructions with this part and I wonder if you might have any advice to offer in regard to the process of replacement since the original dash pad seems to be one piece with the dash panel...?

ANSWER: Hi Allen,
If you are talking about the top part of the dash pad, all the ones I installed just glued on over the top of the old dash to cover up cracks in the old dash. I never seen one to cover the complete dash. If that is what you got, you will need to ask the supplier.

OK... so the old dash pad is a separate piece from the dash instrument panel portion?

That's not what I said. The original dash is all one piece and the "repair" pieces were just a thin plastic piece that only covered the top portion of the dash as that is usually what cracked due to sun light. The "Repair" pad just glued down over the top portion of the original dash to cover up the cracked top of the original dash.
