MG Car Repair: Seat Belts, point belts, salvage yards

Question
I have a 73 MGB.   I'd like to replace the 3 point seatbelt/harness with just a seatbelt.   I don't know what was original back then.   Could you tell me if they had a 2 point or three point restraint system in '73?

Answer
Hi John,
They had a three point and you would be very foolish to replace them with a two point. I worked in MG dealerships for All of the years MG was in the US and back then most dealerships kept salvage yards full of MGs and I seen first hand the results of "No belts", "Two Point belts" and "Three point belts" in MGs. It made me install a three point belt in my new 64 MG 1100 sedan which came with two point and in 66 when I bought a new B, I put three point belts in it as it came with two point too. And don't try to say I was a "wimp" as I was racing motorcycles professionally at the time and had a commercial pilot's license.
If you have a death wish, you can just stick the belts behind the seat. Using a three point belt is a matter of thought and responsibility as opposed to no brains.
