MG Car Repair: Bought mg from jeff, fluid leaks, computer failure

I bought the 1973 mgb from Jeff having problems finding this car vin number and don't know alot about it I have wanted a car like this since I was a little girl now don't know much and just wanted to ask if ya could give me some history on this year model has alot electrical problems brakes go to the floor no brake lights been told has brake fluid and pads aren't bad help with this car thanks

Hi Carla.  Sorry for the delay - I had a BIG computer failure.  Took 2 weeks to fix.  

The MGB has no more brake problems than any other car of that age.  If the brake pedal goes to the floor, then you probably have a loss of brake fluid.  Fill up with fluid rated DOT4, press the pedal a few times, and see if it holds pressure.  If it does, you will need to bleed the brakes.  If the fluid leaks out, try to find the leak.  It could be at the master cylinder, the slave cylinder underneath the engine, or the flexible hose that connects to the slave cylinder.  

The brake lights are operated by a hydraulic pressure switch.  No pressure = no brake lights.  They should work OK again once you fix the leak.

The VIN number will be something like G-HN3-123456.  It is on a small plate attached to the right hand inner wing, near the radiator.  There is a second plate by the bonnet (hood) lock, with the body number - this should be ignored.
