Tires: proper tire inflation, proper tire inflation, 2008 nissan pathfinder

Question
Have 08 Pathfinder just put on Bf Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KOs LT275 70 17.  The stock tires were P265 65 17's with rated tire pressure 35 psi front and back.  With these new larger tires and going from passenger to truck tire what should my tire pressure be now.

Answer
Will,

On every vehicle sold in the US - and I understand this is a worldwide practice as well - there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

BTW, it doesn't matter who makes the tire or what pressure is listed on the tire's sidewall, if the tire size is the same as the placard, then the pressure listed on placard is also appropriate.

According to Tire Guides, a publication that summarizes vehicle tire placards. a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder with P265/65R17's should have a placard pressure of 35 psi front and rear.  Please check your vehicle to make sure this is correct as what follows is dependent on that information

In order to carry the same load a P265/65R17 can at 35 psi, an LT275/70R17 needs to use 39 psi.
