MG Car Repair: 1979 Mgb, clutch slave cylinder, dot 4

Question
The last question I asked was about using dot 3 versus Dot 4.  Thank you very much for clearing that up.  Now we have another problem after we replaced fluid with Dot 4 and bleed the system I started the car tried to get it to go into gear and it wouldn't.  It's like there is no clutch there.  The pedal has pressure but it pops it out of gear.  Not sure where we went wrong.  We replaced both the slave cylinder and master cylinder along with the hose.  Do you have any suggests as to what we need to do?  Thank you very much I hope I've made myself clear as to the problem.

Answer
Hi Vicki.  Sounds like you still have some air in the clutch hydraulic system.  The design of the system is not very good for removing air.  I prefer to unbolt the clutch slave cylinder from the bell-housing, pull it off the operating rod, and let it dangle down vertically.  Then I press up into the slave cylinder with my finger or a blunt screwdriver, pushing the piston up as far as it will go.  This usually dislodges the final air bubble, which rises up the pipe and eventually pops out at the master cylinder.  Bolt the slave cylinder back onto the bell-housing, top up with fluid, and all should be fine.
